Accept Gift Cards

A gift card can be used like a prepaid card, Visa / MasterCard or debit card, so that accepting Gift Cards is similar to accepting Credit Cards. The consumer swipes the card through a terminal, and signs the receipt.

Gift Cards usually comes as a plastic cards with a magnetic strip, similar to those mentioned, and can be used with the terminal connected to your NDMS merchant account. Each time the card is used for a purchase, the NDMS platform handles the authorization and balance check-offs or deduction from the balance on the card.

To make an online or phone purchase, the Gift Card needs to be registered with issuer.  This is done by either calling the issuing provider, or by visiting their website. When an online or phone purchase is made, the name, address, and phone number used during registration will need to be exactly the same as the purchaser. If the information provide differs from what was provided when the card was registered, the transaction may be declined, as any holder can try to use it since it usually doesn’t come with a name.

Gift Cards do not offer a line of credit like a credit card. The person who purchased the card determines the initial value available for use. When the consumer wants to make a purchase for an amount greater than the balance on the gift card, it will need to be treated as a split payment and the balance due settled with —credit or debit card, cash or check—to cover the difference.
