Fraud Prevention

National, through its secure tier one processing platform and personal attention to your CNP business, can reduce your exposure to hacking, skimming, phishing and carding.

To reduce the amount of fraudulent transactions that take place in a CNP environment, the card industry has implemented measures to confirm that the person using the card number is the genuine cardholder:

AVS (Address Verification Service) - Aids in the detection of suspicious credit card transaction activity. AVS matches billing address information provided by the cardholder with the cardholder’s billing address on file at the credit card issuing bank. The processing network then sends an AVS response code indicating the results of the match to the payment gateway.

CSC Checking. (Card Security Code) - Supplying the CSC code in a transaction is intended to verify that the customer has the card in their possession. Virtual terminals and payment gateways do not store the CVV/CVV2 codes, therefore employees and customer service representatives with access to these web-based payment interfaces who otherwise have access to complete card numbers, expiration dates, and other information still lack the codes.

3D-Secure – Is an XML-based protocol designed to be an additional security layer for online credit and debit card transactions. The issuing bank or its ACS (Access Control Server) provider prompts the buyer for a password that is known only to the bank/ACS provider and the buyer. Since the merchant does not know this password and is not responsible for capturing it, it can be used by the issuing bank as evidence that the purchaser is indeed their cardholder.
